Sanford to Get Second Weekly Farmers Market

A new farmers market is in the works for Sanford.

An 8,000 SF building on the site of the historic Sanford State Farmers' Market will undergo cosmetic renovation to become a food-only produce and vegetable weekend farmers market according to Growthspotter.

The City is considering running a trolley to connect the market to downtown as the building is only a mile away at 1400 French Avenue (MAP).

The renovation is expected to be completed in May.

Sanford has an existing farmers market called Sanford Marketplace at Magnolia. It's held Saturdays 9am - 2pm at Magnolia Square (MAP) in downtown Sanford.

According to Riches, the building sits on a historic site of the original Sanford State Farmers' Market founded in 1934. It was created "to provide a central location in which farmers would sell their produce directly to consumers."
