Renovated Downtown Green Space Will Enliven Busy Corner

Gathering spaces, seating and nighttime lighting will make this corner welcoming.

Highwoods Properties, Inc submitted a request for a Major Certificate of Appearance Approval for the renovation of the Eola Park Centre office building site 200 E. Robinson Street on the south side of E. Robinson St. and the Eola Centre parking area on the north side of E. Robinson St. This request goes in front of the Appearance Review Board July 19th.

Improvements at the office building site include regrading and reconfiguring the surface parking lot/vehicular use area, new site amenities (pavilions, plaza space, outdoor recreating space), updating the landscape, new signage, and adding a streetwall along Rosalind and Robinson. A new streetwall with the same or similar fit and finish is proposed for the garage site across the street at 209 E Robinson St.

As part of this project Highwoods is providing additional land through an easement along E. Robinson St, to accommodate a future cycle track and enlarged sidewalk area for the proposed re-design of E. Robinson St. Also, to improve pedestrian and cyclist’s safety and comfort, Highwoods is eliminating 2 of the their 3 driveway cuts along E. Robinson.

A contemporary street wall with a masonry base and horizontal metal dashes will run the length of Rosalind and Robinson along the edge of the building site, as well as the parking garage and surface lot across the street. New hardscape, landscape, employee plaza area and a re-designed parking lot will be contained within the new street wall. There will also be new signage, new architectural lighting for the office tower and new site lighting fixtures.

ARB staff said, the "entire re-design is appropriately scaled with sophistically simple details that unite the property under a common theme and aesthetic flavor."
