Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has declared a State of Emergency in the City of Orlando.
The City continues to monitor the storm’s track and is prepared, if necessary, to go to a Level 1 Full Activation as more information becomes available.
SOLID WASTE UPDATE:
Following the closures of area landfills, the City has suspended residential garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up on Monday, September 2, 2019 and Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
Once landfills have reopened, and weather and road conditions allow, the City will notify residents of the updated solid waste collection schedule, to include missed garbage collections, and begin the cleanup process.
The City is asking residents to help us prevent flooding by not placing tree trimmings or any type of loose waste or yard debris at their curb. During a severe weather event, these items can clog storm drains which may result in flooding of property and/or the street.
PARKING GARAGE FEES WAIVED:
The City will waive parking fees for the following parking garages starting at 12 p.m. on Monday, September 2, for any resident who would like to park their car in a covered garage:
City Commons Parking Garage
Jefferson St. Garage
Central Blvd. Garage
Orange County Administration Garage
Library Garage
Trailers, boats and vehicles taller than 6' 7" are not permitted.
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY CENTER CLOSURES:
City of Orlando neighborhood centers, and pools will be closed Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Additionally, several sporting and event activities and scheduled programs have been canceled at the City’s Neighborhood Centers, Parks and Recreation Facilities beginning Sunday, September 1, 2019.
After school programs at all City neighborhood centers will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
PERMITTING SERVICES:
The City is asking that all non-emergency permitting needs wait until after the storm has passed.
CITY OPERATIONS:
Due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Dorian, the City of Orlando’s non-essential offices and services, including City Hall, will be closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. The previously scheduled Orlando City Council meeting has been canceled. Items scheduled to be heard at the canceled Tuesday, September 3, 2 p.m. Orlando City Council meeting have been moved to the next scheduled meeting on Monday, September 16, 2019, at 2 p.m.
The city’s Tuesday, September 3, 2019, 5:01 p.m. Budget Hearing has also been canceled. The first Budget Hearing will be heard on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 5:01 p.m., with the second Budget Hearing rescheduled for Monday, September 25, 2019 at 5:01 p.m.
HOMELESS SHELTERS
Persons experiencing homelessness in Central Florida are most vulnerable to the impact of a major hurricane. The Homeless Services Network is working with four homeless shelters who will be adding capacity to serve homeless individuals who are seeking refuge during Hurricane Dorian.
