Boy Kong is Back! Boy Kong is Back! Boy Kong is Back! Boy Kong is Back!

I've been obsessed with Boy Kong since 2012 when I first saw his work hanging inside Tako Cheena. Every piece had a sold sticker on it. OF COURSE IT DID. The work was unlike any other locally-made art I'd ever seen. I bought 2 original Boy Kong pieces at his Play Nice Die Young show. The first piece I bought right when I arrived. After several drinks, I bought a second one. Oops! They each depicted an animal drawn in black and white. The area where the animal's stomach should be was cut out. Behind the cut out you could see through to a gaggle of cartoonishly drawn and colored objects. I bought more over the years because I just. Freaking. Loved It.

Here's some of The Daily City's coverage of Boy Kong from over the years:

He's back with new works in a show at the Mennello Museum of American Art running August 24 through October 7th. The show also contains works by Sarah M Bender, Peterson Guerrier, and Kelly Joy Ladd.
