Outdoor Food Hall Boxi Park Will "Evolve the Concept of Food Halls"

Boxi Park will be Central Florida's very first outdoor food hall and first outdoor entertainment venue built with repurposed shipping containers.

We told you in May that a game changing outdoor food hall shaped like a park named Boxi Park is coming to Lake Nona Town Center just south of SR 417 on the northwest corner of Lake Nona Boulevard and Tavistock Lakes Boulevard. More details and a rendering have been released about the project.

Charles B. Lewis, Senior Managing Director of Tavistock Group (the company that created Lake Nona and will be creating Boxi Park) said, "We're... evolving the concept of food halls to create a destination-worthy attraction."

Opening December 2018, the 30,000-square-foot, family- and dog-friendly open-air entertainment destination will be built using 12 shipping containers arranged in one- and two-story configurations and feature restaurants, bars, a live music stage, shaded seating, a playground, a fenced dog park, and beach volleyball courts. Boxi Park will be Central Florida's very first outdoor food hall and first outdoor entertainment venue built with repurposed shipping containers.

Boxi Park will include a varying roster of curated food and beverage options created by Tavistock Restaurant Collection along with two full-service bars serving a selection of cocktails, wine and beer garden featuring its own craft beer line. The food hall will act as an incubator for dining options.

Boxi Park’s stage will host a variety of local performers with regular programming scheduled for weekdays and weekends.Complimentary parking for Boxi Park will be available in the adjacent surface lot or the five-story central parking structure featuring Lake Nona’s interactive landmarks, The Beacon and Code Wall.

The park’s unique temporary structure allows the containers to be moved as Lake Nona Town Center expands. There will be colorful geometric shapes throughout the park on the containers as well as the flooring tiles. Large, 60-foot Live Oak trees will help provide shade to guests. The trees are part of a bigger relocation initiative from Tavistock Development Company to preserve and move more than 100 trees from wetlands located on the southern border of Lake Nona.

Boxi Park is the latest addition to the 100-acre Lake Nona Town Center which recently announced Cinépolis as the anchor movie theater tenant set to open in 2020. Currently, the Town Center includes two award-winning hotels, Chroma Modern Bar + Kitchen, Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine, Jacq & Jack full-service salon and barbershop, a Class-A office building, LandonHouse apartment community, and the flagship location of Drive Shack. In addition to Boxi Park, Town Center will also open Pixon, a modern apartment community, Park Pizza & Brewing Co., and the new BBA Aviation/Signature Flight Support headquarters by the end of 2018.

Central Florida has more food halls in the works. Just take a look at our Orlando Food Hall Guide! Maitland City Center's food hall hybrid is built and awaiting tenants. Downtown Sanford's Henry's Depot (originally called First Street Market) will take shape inside a 1940 train depot. A small food hall inside the Creative Village is in the works. A giant 20-tenant food hall is coming as part of a huge luxury development to Kissimmee. Oviedo Food Factory, opening late 2019, will feature a micro-restaurant row.

. What exactly makes a food hall a food hall and not a food court? Simply put - it's a place to get lunch almost every day without getting bored. The food is elevated, pricier and, to some, more special. The feeling of the interior should be a hub of activity. People everywhere. If it doesn't feel like there are too many people inside it, it's not a food hall.

Food halls, much like grown adults wearing clothing from the 90s and white hipsters saying "dope," are a trend. Some say the trend is inflated while others say it's not dead. We recommend doing a little reading to understand more about this trend. See below:
