MOOM | January 16 at Blank Space

January's MOOM (what is MOOM?) took place on the same day as the MLK Parade downtown, so we had music and frivolity outside while brainstorming and idea generation was going on inside. A big huge whopping thanks to Jefre, the owner of Blank Space for opening up just for us today. Our next MOOM is in February. Stay tuned for date/time.

MOOM #6 | Dec 11, 2009 | Blank Space Art Lounge

MOOM (Meeting of the Orlando Minds) is one of the many live events produced by TheDailyCity.com working to create a more robust and interactive creative community in Orlando. MOOM is simple and sweet: creative producers (in any medium, at any level) connect, discuss projects, share resources and build interdisciplinary collaborations through group brainstorm in quick one-hour early morning sessions.

How does it work? Prepare to speak briefly about something you need help with: a project, plan, idea, festival, show, art space, ad campaign. Then watch the sparks fly as the group throws out ideas and suggestions to you. We go around the room for one hour until everyone's been helped. Thats it!

MOOM #3 | Roho Coffee and Art

The third MOOM was 8am Thursday August 14, 2009 at Roho Art & Coffee on Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando. We had a great turnout and Roho was very accommodating. MOOM will continue even after I am in NYC, so stay tuned for the announcement of the next one and don't miss it!

What is MOOM? | Indie producers unite at the ungodly hour of 8am for MOOM, a coffee meetup for indie producers (from any genre) to come in to brainstorm, talk about their upcoming projects, share resources, ask for help, give help and drink coffee. One hour. In out. Sponsored by The Daily City.

And what is an Indie Producer? Me, for example. I produce a blog, a taco truck taste test, a mobile art show and an improv festival. You may produce visual art. Or you may be a dance choreographer/producer. Any medium, any interest. The point is, no matter the medium, we all face the same shit: press releases, emails, due dates, contacting donors, securing space. All are welcome to the MOOM, including press. Its just…

MOOM #3 August 14 | RoHo Art & Coffee | downtown

The next Moom is 8am Friday August 14, 2009 at RoHo Art & Coffee (29 S Orange Ave, Orlando, FL‎ | MAP)

What is MOOM? Indie Producers get together for coffee and brainstorming, support and chat. Produced by The Daily City. Bring your list of issues with your current and future projects and get some help. Or just sip your coffee, listen and get inspired. Producer is just another word for "maker" and you can be from any discipline.

The photos in the slide show are from the very first MOOM in June.

MOOM #1

We're #1!
The very first MOOM took place July 10, 2009 at 8am at Barnies Coffee in Baldwin Park. (Audio meeting notes) It was a fun happy gathering of creative makers and producers listening, sharing and brainstorming.

What is MOOM?
Independent producers of content in any medium meet for an early morning, one-hour, coffee-fueled brainstorm and inspiration thing.

Some proposed ideas:

League of Independent Producers
Some entity that indies and co-dependents can turn to for guidance and assistance. Might also give us a larger voice when acting as a group, say with ad buys, for instance.

The Daily City Fall Indie Arts Preview
30-45 minute live presentation to generate interest in and an awareness of, the projects of the independent producer/maker in Orlando, based on the "Whats Up Downtown?" presentation I saw last week. I will send more info on this once I secure a venue and date.

TheDailyCity.com Meeting of the Orlando Minds

What is it? Meeting of the Orlando Minds (MOOM) is one of TheDailyCity.com's live events working to create a more robust creative community in Orlando. Creative producers (in any medium, at any level) connect, discuss projects, share resources and build interdisciplinary collaborations through group brainstorm in quick one-hour early morning sessions.

How to Prepare: Bring a question, idea, proposal or problem that you are currently working on or will work on and be prepared to speak 1-2 minutes about it. Tip: (1) Bring spare change for parking meters ($2 for 2 hours) and (2) set a timer on your cell to remind you when you need to go back to the meter to add change. Or, park at the parking garage across the street from the downtown library.
