Choo Choo to the Zoo Zoo - Take a Free Shuttle from the Sanford Sunrail Stop to the Central Florida Zoo

From June 1 to September 1, 2017 locals can ride Sunrail (Website) to the Sanford stop where a Zoo-branded shuttle will be waiting. They can take the free shuttle to the Central Florida Zoo where they can show their SunRail ticket and receive 20 percent off admission. The program is called “The Choo Choo to the Zoo.” The shuttle then makes a second stop at the Welcome Center on First Street in Historic Downtown Sanford. Return shuttle times will be timed with scheduled SunRail departures from the Sanford station and posted for customers at the drop off areas at the Zoo and the Downtown Welcome Center.

10 Pulse Memory Events at the Downtown Public Library

From June 11 through June 15, the Orange County Library System joins Orlando in reflecting on the year that has passed since the shooting at LGBT nightclub Pulse. Join us for a series of events that celebrate diversity, show support for our community, and ask people to consider how Pulse has changed us.

Pulse Remembrance Through Music & Poetry Orlando Public Library, 101 E. Central Blvd. Sunday, June 11, 2 p.m. Local band Sugar City will perform their song “World of Love,” which was inspired by the Pulse tragedy and recorded at the Melrose Center. Local poets will read poems they composed in memory of the events of June 12, 2016.

Halal Guys Opens in Orlando August 11

We told you back in April that Halal Guys (Facebook) was opening their first Orlando location at 688 N Alafaya Trail Suite 103, Orlando, FL 32828 (MAP) this summer. The exact date is August 11th according to Orlando Sentinel.

Poor People on 192 Subject of Cannes Film Festival Hit "The Florida Project"

Gaining a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and debuting at Cannes Film Festival, the film "The Florida Project" dramatizes life for a poor mother and daughter living in Kissimmee on 192 according to USA Today.  Perhaps it will bring attention to actual poor people who are living in those 192 hotels with no power or water. Willam Defoe and an actress discovered on Instagram play the leads. Another description of the film says "tells the story of a group of young kids whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder while their parents and the adults around them struggle with hard times."    company called A24 beat out Amazon to get the North American distribution rights.

Tiny Building to Remain Tiny Building at Busiest Intersection in Downtown Orlando

Originally listed for $1.2 million, the Mama B's Subs building (which opened in 1975) at the corner of Orange & Colonial at 692 N. Orange Ave (MAP) sold for $750,000 according to Growthspotter. It will remain one story building, receiving a cosmetic renovation inside and out. The property and the building are surrounded on two sides by multi-story buildings and faces a multistory residential building across the street. The building will be used as a pet store.
