Disney Floral & Gifts Pop-Up Shop at Disney Springs

Disney Floral & Gifts (WEB) is doing a pop-up shop inside the Disney Co-Op at Disney Springs. The small corner, nestled between kitchenware and handbags, contains live flowers, flower headbands, wristlets and more for sale. Their products have been typically available to customers only online. This pop up shop is an experiment. According to the employees we spoke with, during the dapper day weekend, sales were very good. The shop runs until Mothers Day.

24 Fires Caused by Disney Fireworks Says Disney Fire Department

More than 24 brush fires have been caused by fireworks shows held at Disney's Hollywood Studios in the past 3 months according to the head of the Disney's fire fighter union. The permit to conduct firework shows, which are exempt under Orange County's burn ban, comes from Disney's fire department. More sprinklers and cleared land are required the head said.

Downtown Walgreens Sign Installed

The soon-to-open 6,400 sq ft downtown Walgreens at the corner of Orange and Church at 190 S. Orange Avenue (MAP) received a new vertical sign facing both streets April 30th. The City gave $20,000.00 to Nunziata Holdings LLC for fa├žade improvements to the building for a blade sign and to restore the exterior lights at the entrance of the building with frontage on Orange Avenue. The capital investment for the improvements was estimated at $84,158.35 thus the eligibility for the $20,000 funding assistance .

Universal Submits Master Plan for Former Wet 'n Wild Site for Attraction, Hotel and Resort Uses

Universal Parks and Resorts has submitted a Master Plan request to the City for what they're calling "Project 566," the redevelopment of the Wet ‘n Wild water park at 6200 International Drive (MAP) with hotel, attraction, and resort uses. Additionally, an abandonment request for a portion of Precision Drive has been included. This project is tentatively scheduled for a public hearing at the Municipal Planning Board on May 16, 2017.

Thirty Six Black Art Collective Opening in SoDo

Thirty Six Black Art Collective is opening at 1809 S. Orange Ave (MAP). It's being opened by Johnny Nobody, a tattoo artist who moved to Orlando from New York City in August 2016. The tentative opening date is May 13th. 
Next door an U Break I Fix phone repair shop will be opening soon.
The space will be 70% art gallery in the front with tattoo work in the back, oddities (think Carmines) and retail. 
The art gallery will feature fine art paintings with an opening night on the 13th of each month. Six artists will be featured each month.

Their required follow-up inspection on April 20th returned zero violations, but Avenue Gastrobar (Yelp | Facebook) at 13 S. Orange Ave (MAP) in downtown Orlando racked up 35 violations 2 days prior during their April 18th inspection (which required the April 20th follow-up inspection). See below.

One lane of Garland Ave between Washington St and South St is closed for 11 months for EB I-4 bridge construction. 

Plans for 13-Story Downtown Tower Magnolia Rose Submitted to City

On April 11, a Magnolia Rose Multifamily Master Plan Project was submitted to the City by Kimley Horn.  Magnolia Rose is a proposed multifamily development located at the southeast corner of N. Rosalind Avenue and E. Livingston Street, Orlando, Florida 32822. The project scope includes the development of a 13 story*, 325* unit multi-family residential project with a 5 level parking garage and 4,500 sq ft of ground level flex space for office/retail on six (6) parcels, totaling ±1.41 acres. 
Public open space will be designed at the northwest and southwest corners of the development. The areas will be designed as public plazas/ green space that will add street life and greenery to the downtown environment. 
In addition, it is requested that a density bonus be granted to increase the allowable units in AC-3A/T from 200 to 400 du/ac.

A New Orleans-Inspired Concept is Replacing Muchos in Thornton Park

Yesterday we told you that Muchos Taco and Tequila at 101 S Eola Drive (MAP) was closing down May 7th for a ten day overhaul after which a new restaurant concept would be revealed. 
This morning a press release was sent out to announce the news and reveal the new restaurant concept. The name will be Muddy Waters and the menu will be comprised of New Orleans-inspired cuisine. Chef Bernard Carmouche and Chef Larry Sinibaldi of the original Two Chefs Seafood Restaurant located in a 3-story downtown office building (with a condo at the top) will be doing the food. Beacon Hill Group is also a partner.  "The menu will pay homage to Chef Bernard’s deep New Orleans roots and culinary background, with an emphasis on fresh, authentic ingredients sourced in Louisiana and masterfully prepared using expert techniques."
