Tavistock Considering This Downtown Parking Lot as Potential New Home for Orlando Museum of Art

In 2015 we told you that the Orlando Museum of Art wanted to move downtown into a new building "that morphs into the public square of art and ideas and is the place where people will want to gather."

In November 2016 we told you the ugly ass parking lot adjacent to the Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts would continue being an ugly ass parking lot for another 12 months.

Well that could change in the future.

On Wednesday, Growthspotter reported that this lot is one of several sites up for consideration as the new home for the Orlando Museum of Art; the developers (Tavistock) filed a zoning verification inquiry (as part of their Orlando Museum of Art site selection process) to build a 450,000 sq ft mixed use building & parking garage on the lot.
This spot would make sense because it would share a giant lawn with Dr Phillips making the area a hub for performing and visual arts. It's adjacent to the Aloft and Magnolia Anderson hotels as well.

Thornton Park Loses Its Third Restaurant in Eight Months

Thornton Park will have lost its third restaurant in eight months when Baoery Asian Gastropub shuts its doors for good this Friday. Last August, Wildside BBQ closed. Graffiti Junction left their space down the street and moved into the Wildside space. The former Graffiti Junction space remains unoccupied. Last November Verde Mexican Soul Food closed in the former Tijuana Flats space. This Friday Baoery Asian Gastropub will close.  Baoery opened October 2015 on the ground floor of a condo building at 617 E Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 3280 (MAP)  Size was a factor in the restaurant's demise according to what Chef Greg Ritchie told Scott Joseph. He said the restaurant should have been half the size it was. (Perhaps the bao bunnery would do well in the half-size Taco Bell-adjacent tiny dead Subway?) There are no hard plans for the space currently according to Orlando Weekly.

For the Third Time This Year a Rifle Was Left in Police Vehicle Overnight and Someone Stole It

Updated March 27, 2017 11:30pm

For the third time in 2017, a high ranking Central Florida Police employee left their gun overnight inside an unattended unmarked police vehicle in a residential neighborhood and someone stole it. It is not against policy for guns to be left locked inside a police vehicle. In all three cases, the weapons were locked up properly in either mounted locking devices or other locking devices. These three employees did nothing wrong. However, due to these recent thefts, it appears this policy may need to be revisited. Take a look at the three incidents that have already occurred this year:
On January 28th an Orlando Police Department SWAT/TAC Officer left their submachine gun locked overnight inside an unattended unmarked OPD vehicle in a Baldwin Park apartment complex parking lot and someone stole it.On February 14th an Orlando Police Department Seargent left their AR-15 rifle locked overnight inside an unattended unmarked OPD vehicle in a a Lake Nona apartment…
