Sissy Spacek at Florida Film Festival 2016

Have a tip about Orlando-area development? Send it to mark@thedailycity.com.

Each year Florida Film Festival brings celebrity guests to share a film of their choice. This year Sissy Spacek was in attendance at tonight's screening of Badlands. After the film the audience enjoyed a Q&A where Sissy shared stories from Badlands as well as many of her other films and experiences. Mrs. Spacek was very entertaining and looked great! This wasn't too much of a surprise as she has played younger for several of her films. In Coal Miner's Daughter she played a 14 year old Loretta Lynn when she was 27 years old!

The Florida Film Festival is in it's final few days and offers screenings through Sunday 4/17. Check out their schedule and catch a film or many before it's a wrap for 2016!

Se7en Bites Bakery will be replaced by...

... a food truck! The owner of Bad As's Sandwiches food truck has signed the lease on the space that local bakery Se7en Bites will exit soon.
The bakery will move down the street to a larger location with more seating and parking.
The new sandwich restaurant will retain the truck's name and will feature a similar menu to the truck's menu. Guests will choose from sandwiches, salads and soups.
The new restaurant's owner is considering morning and afternoon hours, the same as Se7en Bites. However, since they have a food truck, they're considering late night hours during which patrons from the Milk District bars can buy late night meals on a simplified menu straight from the truck.
The restaurant is expected to open in the Fall.

Florida Film Festival Connections; Thank You, Del: The Story of The Del Close Marathon & SAK Comedy Lab

By: Denna Beena  Contributing Connector

Did you know that Orlando has one of the best improv comedy theaters in the country? SAK Comedy Lab has been making people laugh and starting the careers of performers like Wayne Brady, Paula Pell, Dee Baker Bradley and so many others for years. I would bet everyone one of SAK's performers have read Del Close's book Truth In Comedy at least once!

Florida Film Festival is screening "Thank You, Del: The Story of The Del Close Marathon". From their site: " Though Close barely made a mark as a performer, he revolutionized modern comedy by transforming improv from an acting exercise to an art form. (He literally wrote the book on the subject:Truth in Comedy.) Forget telling jokes—Close wanted performers to invent sketches live, like a jazz band playing without charts. Fear serves to sharpen the senses, revealing truth (and humor) like no script could...If…

As I prepped for this years Florida Film Festival, I got to thinking of connections. There are movies that if you enjoy, you should check out other offerings in Orlando. So be on the look out for my Florida Film Festival Connections!

One of the first pre-festival screenings I got to attend was for Man vs. Snake: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler. It's a documentary about video games and one mans one BILLION point record. One quarter and over 40 hours of play!

As the website says "MAN VS. SNAKE… is filled with unexpected twists and turns and is an endearing, funny, and compelling tale of the triumph of the human spirit." I really enjoyed the film. You feel for these people and the stories, struggles and achievements. Another super cool element though is that I met some of the people in this film right here in Orlando!

Free Play Florida is a three day celebr…
