Bhakti Chai Tuk Tuk Visits Orlando #meetginger

The Fresh Market had a little Tuk Tuk parked out front today to promote Bhakti Chai (Web | Twitter | Instagram). Shoppers received a free shot of the product in individual bottles and they walked in. We were just amazed at the cool Tuk Tuk (buy one here)... and the coffee blend iced chai shot wasnt bad either.

Tinker Field Removal Begins Today

On March 23, the Orlando City Council voted to celebrate Orlando’s history by designating Tinker Field (MAP) as an Orlando Historic Landmark and are also working to develop a develop a historic marker or display for the site that will commemorate the important historic events and persons associated with Tinker Field.

But the grandstands are going.

Today, the removal of the grandstands begins at 1pm.

Dehydrated Watermelon and Sea Salt Homemade Potato Chips from SMAC

Well this is delicious and weird. The food truck primarily known for macaroni and cheese, SMAC, has a new product: homemade potato chips topped with dehydrated watermelon and sea salt. Wha? For three bucks you get a little paper boatful. At first bite, the tang is confusing, but we gave them out to several people to try and the concensus was "odd but tasty."

Maitland Gets a New Monthly Food Truck Event Courtesy of @foodtruckbazaar

Maitland had a weekly Wednesday early evening food truck event in 2011 and 2012 that died a slow death finally. The same trucks kept being used. People like variety. The lack of it is why we think it died.
The city tried a monthly food truck event in 2014 and that died immediately.
In January 2015, the civic center launched a monthly event that ran on Wednesdays all of three months with dismal attendnance. Six trucks were used. The civic center called us to see if we could work our @foodtruckbazaar magic and we are going to give it a shot.
Starting April 24th, @foodtruckbazaar will be at Maitland Civic Center on 4th Friday's 6-9pm with six trucks, live music, beer and wine sales and (wait for it) indoor air conditioned seating!
Growing a monthly event takes a few months, and not all of our @foodtruckbazaar branded events succeed. But, we have a fairly good track record and will give this a go.

30 Prius Purchase Announced on Earth Day by Orange County

Orange County held a press conference on Earth Day to announce they'd purchased a fleet of 30 Toyota Prius for their property appraisers to use daily. The email address and phone number of the department are on each car, giving locals a clear way to communicate with them. The cars will save the County lots of money on gas due to them being hybrids.

One Less Car, One More Park

For Earth Day on Wednesday, the City of Orlando hosted the third annual One Less Car, One More Park, an event that highlights the positive impact of parks and green spaces and the use of transportation alternatives to the car, that reduce our impact on the environment. The event featured eight local companies who temporarily transformed on-street metered parking spaces into re-imagined parks and green areas to show the positive impact of leaving vehicles at home and walking, biking, carpooling or using public transit to commute.Since 2007, when Mayor Buddy Dyer launched Green Works Orlando, the City of Orlando has worked to become one of the most sustainable cities in America to ensure that we protect our natural resources and amenities for our residents and future generations to come.Key to this initiative is finding ways to redesign and transform our urban environment to connect our neighborhoods by providing shaded, interconnected pedestrian and bicycle corridors and more parks and …

How the Cookie Shot Got to Orlando and Winter Park

By Mark Baratelli
Publisher

The cookie shot has arrived in Orlando. It goes on sale Friday April 17th for the first time ever in Winter Park at Peterbrooke Chocolatier (300 S Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789). It was created by the creator of the cronut, Dominique Ansel.

How did it get to Orlando?

The Daily City blog (EST 2007) has a feature called #bringtoorlando. It's a type of post I write in which I share one good idea I've found other cities doing, and ask our readers to bring this idea to Orlando. It makes the city better. That's its goal.

Here are a few examples of some #bringtoorlando challenges:

On March 6, 2014, I did a #bringtoorlando post about the chocolate chip cookie milk shot:

Here's what I said:
Much like the cronut wafted its way into local Orlando restaurants and theme parks after it hit New York and the universe, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Milk …
