NOTARAMA!, a fundraiser for notary republic Lindsay Kathryn Smith at Colonial Lanes (400 N. Primrose Drive, Orlando, Florida 32803), takes place on Thursday, Oct. 3, 9pm-12am. Alena Citro is serving everything from cheap draft beer to fancy cocktails, all from behind her antique recessed bar. The organizers are raising 200 bucks with a tip jar, drink specials, and "notary games." Then Lindsay Kathryn Smith can get her bond and become a cab-driving NOTARY PUBLIC. If you need a document witnessed, or you "need" to get married, "bring it on." They'll have a bonded notary public in the house to stamp things and answer all of your notary questions (ALL of them).
Orlando Lens By Nicholas WareTwitter | E-mail Lake Bell, writer/director/star of In A World..., has long deserved to be a bigger star than she is. Funny, soulful, and uniquely beautiful, she's survived on small parts in big movies and larger roles with the Southern California comedy community's projects, such as Children's Hospital. In A World..., her new comic drama set in the world of voice over acting, proves she's got a lot of talent as a writer as well, and though the film is a bit slight in its ambitious, it does what it plans to do very well and in doing so showcases the talents of Bell and several other familiar faces with unfamiliar names who, like Bell, deserve greater glory than they've gained.
In A World...'s title is a reference to the oft-repeated film trailer cliche, and in the film's landscape of voice over kings it's a sacred line that only the very best can utter. The plot of the film revolves around Carol Solomon's (Bell) family. He…
Orlando Lens By Nicholas WareTwitter | E-mail Metallica Through the Never is an intriguing proposition: a concert film with a narrative attached. While Metallica play an arena show in an unnamed city (the concert footage is from two shows in Canada), a young roadie named Trip is sent on a mission to retrieve a package from a broken-down truck. Metallica's greatest hits underscore his journey, which becomes increasingly surreal and violent as he enters a nightmarish hellscape and is forced to fend for himself in his quest. What Metallica is offering with this film is not so much a rock opera, but a long-form music video that make for an intriguing proposition for a theater visit. Mix in 3D IMAX visuals and sound, and you have the potential for something ambitious and wonderful. Unfortunately, what promises to be more story than concert film turns out to be very lop-sided on the concert footage. While the shows the band performs are very exciting, a concert film is just a concert film…
Orlando Lens By Nicholas WareTwitter | E-mail If you've seen a Ron Howard film, you'll likely feel very comfortable with Rush. The former Opie has become the modern king of middlebrow prestige entertainment: films that are well made, highly watchable, but extremely safe and accessible. In film such as Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and Frost/Nixon, Howard has created fully unobjectionable but largely unexciting movies that feel "right," but never feel exceptional. Rush, the new Howard feature about the rivalry between Formula One race car drivers, this tradition continues. Rush features competent directing and solid acting (with an especially praise-worthy turn from Daniel Bruhl). However, it is the inability for Howard to take chances that holds Rush (and all of his films) back from truly breaking through and taking the checkered flag, but there are still plenty of highlights in its race to tell the true-life tale of reckless James Hunt and efficient Niki Lauda, largely…

We got a tip-off about where you can sample their chicken & waffles four months prior to opening. Attend the October 5th Jack in the Park event to benefit the Special Olympics of Florida. They will be served there.

By Sage Klein A 14 Year Old 14 year old Sage Klein's review of his first week of middle school school was received well by readers, so he's back to tell us about his life, a concert at Back Booth and the play "The Boy Who Stole the Sun." As a little kid I would stare out my window, in my car seat, and see older "kids" walk into concerts downtown or teenagers go into movies, and I had such a longing to be able to have a girlfriend, or go to a concert!! But now I have those privileges, and I want to stop in my tracks through my path of life, and look around, and open my eyes. The same eyes that are so closed to change and opportunity, closed to seeing the world as it is or will be.
I'm so consumed in my daily life, that I don't stop and just realize that I have all of those things that I wished I had when I was 6 or 7. And these privileges are fun, but I would do anything to be a lil tot again.
