"read box" at Winter Park Public Library

Check out this amazing display at the Winter Park Public Library. The "read box", named after the omnipresent Red Box, features books that have inspired movies. SO clever. To see it in person take your library card and head to the 2nd floor of the library.

Orlando Fringe Festival: C- is a Show I am Looking Forward To

By Mark Baratelli

This show sounds hilarious. And I don't like theatre, shows, laughing or sounds.
In 2008 Eric Jaffe, interviewed all of his college buddies, twenty years after their hard-partying days. Now middle-aged, the former fraternity brothers look at the value of
a college education.
Four years and sixty-five interviews later, the result is the one-man-show "C-", a comic look at the tragedy that is college, how people really earn a living, and how life perspectives change as they age.
It's playing at the Orlando Fringe Theatre Festival.

Virginia's Balloon Artist Community Is Kicking Our Butts

Let's be honest. Orlando has too many balloon artists. Our personal favorite is I-Drive CiCi's Pizza's Jesus, and not just because he's cute. So if we have so many balloon artists in town, isn't it about time they get beyond bouquets of ballon flowers and balloon hats, and get serious about creating object people, both local and tourist, could get excited about?

Maybe we need an outside company to come in to get the ball rolling like Virginia did.

Airigami, a professional balloon art studio that does balloon sculptures throughout the world, did a 20-foot acrocanthosaurus inside the Virginia Museum of Natural History. It took four days to build with the help of the local balloon artist community. They were also used for school field trips in which local elementary students learned balloon artistry.
Do we need to bring in Airigami, or can our balloon art community come together to create something huge on its own?

Universal Orlando Transformers to Take Over Side of Downtown Fairwinds Building

By Ken Storey

The Fairwinds building downtown sits directly against I-4 making it one of the most visible buildings to the passing motorist.  On Monday, April 29 Twitter user @PlazaAndMainSt tweeted a picture of a letter sent to employees of the building informing them a large 'project' that will be taking place on the side of the building for a local theme park.  By end of Monday the massive sticker was almost a third of the way done.

The sticker looks like a similar one that was used in Spring 2012 in Los Angles when the Transformers ride opened at Universal Studios Hollywood.  There the sticker was affixed to the side of the Staples Center.  The effect was enhanced with black smoke from the top of the building and debris scattered around the base of the building.  The promotion took place roughly six weeks before the opening of the Transformers ride there.  Our iteration of the ride is rumored to be opening on June 21st making this week the seventh week before the ride openi…

Merida from Brave is Magic Kingdom's First Royal Coronation Since 2011

By Ken Storey

Since 2010 Walt Disney World has held special coronation for their new princesses. Tiana was the first to be treated with the special royal coronation event. In 2011 Rapunzel was featured in such a ceremony. On May 11, 2013 at 9:30a Merida, from Brave, will officially become Disney's 11th Princess with her own royal coronation ceremony at the front steps of Cinderella Castle.
The other Disney princesses are Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Tiana, and Rapunzel. All are expected to make appearances at the royal coronation.  The event is open to all Magic Kingdom guests.

Geeky Just Got Sexy With These Australian Swimsuits

By Ken Storey

Looking for that perfect summer swimsuit that no one else has?  Why not also express that inner geek in one of these Star Wars or Lord of the Rings prints from Black Milk.  The prints can be found in swimsuits, dresses, and a number of other random clothing pieces.  The Australian based brand also has some amazing print shoes, skirts, and other accessories.  But its these swimsuits that we love the most!  The free international shipping means that buying a swimsuit on the opposite side of the earth won't be nearly as painful as if you had shown up to the pool party with the same swimsuit as everyone else.
