We just came across Doug Long and Juan Arjona and their supper club ministry called Eat, Love & Happiness (twitter | facebook). Their mission is to bring people together to enjoy delicious gourmet meals
while raising funds to help local charities and people in need. It is part of the overall Taste of Happiness ministry.
At least once a month, the chefs schedule An Eat, Love & Happinessevent, in a hosting home. Doug and Juan handle all the arrangements, from inviting guests, to preparing and sending out the menu, setting up for the event, cooking, and cleaning up afterwards. The hostess, who may also invite guests, is not even responsible for dinnerware or table linens since Doug and Juan provide those items as well.
The cost of the event ranges from $30-$35 per person, depending on the menu and courses. Quick to acknowledge the ministry is “all about God,” Doug and Juan deduct no expenses from this fund; all the monies collected go directly to the designated recipient or charity. The beneficiary of this gift is selected before planning the dinner, and if possible, attends an Eat, Love & Happiness event as a guest.
Each Eat, Love & Happiness dinner begins with a “meet and greet” while devouring hors d’oeuvres. The meal that follows varies each month and usually includes wines and/or teas. Each dinner is themed such as the “Floribbean Supper,” a cuisine fusion of Floridian and Caribbean foods, or the “Asian and Sushi Fest,” a celebration of exotic dishes. September’s menu will include some amazing Prime Rib. The tasting meal might include as many as fourteen different courses during the four to five hour event.
As guests sample the dishes, Chefs Doug and Juan explain each course and keep the pace of the evening relaxed and fun.
“Guests may enter as strangers, but they leave as friends,” said Chef Juan. “They enjoy each other’s company and great food, and at the same time, they are helping others in need.”
Events listing and registration are now online. For full listing of our events with details and menus, visit the Eat, Love & Happiness Supper Club Events page. If you, or someone you know would like to contribute by hosting an event, contact them.
