UpStanders Family Fun Day at Lake Eola Announces Entertainment

The Holocaust Center has announced the entertainers confirmed for its Second Annual UpStanders Family Fun Day at Lake Eola on Sunday October 14, 2012, noon to 3pm.  The event will feature music by The Rep’s Power Chords, Hagerty High School’s Jazz Band, Orlando Circle of Friends, Central Florida Community Arts Choir and Winter Springs High School Bear Voices. Local magician/entertainer Tony Brent will be on hand in the character of Pip Squeak, using comedy, magic tricks, juggling and costumes to humorously teach children how to cope with being bullied.

It identifies people who take steps — large or small — to defend the rights and safety of everyone in their community. The Holocaust Center is asking local students (and adults, too!) to take the pledge:I will STAND UP to bullyingI won’t be a bullyI won’t let anyone bully meI won’t let anyone bully someone elseI have a responsibility to STOP BULLYIN…

Disney announced that the Pete's Silly Sideshow, one of the last areas left to open in the Storybook Circus area within the new Fanstayland at Magic Kingdom, will open by mid-October.  A large very detailed gift shop (Big Top Souvenirs), new Fastpass distribution site, and a small seating area will also open soon within Storybook Circus. The Meet and Greet will include Minnie Mouse as a circus performer (Minnie Magnifique), Daisy Duck as a fortuneteller (Madame Daisy Fortuna), Donald Duck as snake charmer (The Astounding Donaldo) and Goofy as a daredevil stunt pilot (The Great Goofini). The Great Goofini is also the theme of the small coaster across from the new area.

Looks like at least one guy is excited about being able to meet Goofy in his new location.

Black Bean Deli proves small is good, so what about that Colonial and Mills building?

By Ken Storey Contributing Writer Twitter | Blog On the very busy corner of Colonial and Mills Ave in the heart of the Mills50 district now sits one of the worst eyesores in the area.  The former home of Anthony's Pizza now sits empty and dilapidated.  Anthony's Pizza moved only a few hundred feet away into a much larger building with parking, indoor seating, and a small outdoor patio along Colonial Drive.  The issue with their former location is it's lack of size for a true dining room and lack of parking.  Before Anthony's Pizza occupied the space another delivery company, Steak Out, was there.  Now though the 1,592sq ft building on a .11 acre site creates a unattractive focal point that takes away from all the lovely work that has happened on the other corners of the intersection and throughout the district including the lovely Hats and Heels mural and the art boxes.

Just down the street Black Bean Deli proves that small buildings shouldn't stop good businesses f…
