Orlando food trucks on parade at The Daily City® Food Truck Bazaar | A visit to Orlando is not complete without a trip to The Food Truck Bazaar, the nation's original traveling food truck event!  Chances are good we have a stop on our itinerary that lines up with your vacation dates. Created in 2011 by Owner Mark Baratelli, the event gives tourists a huge truck selection (10-15 per event) and a fun "event" atmosphere full of locals sampling, meeting people in line and enjoying the night with friends and family.

It's THE way to experience the Orlando food truck scene in one evening!

Named "the pied piper of food trucks" by the Orlando Business Journal, Baratelli selects each truck himself through a menu, tasting and paperwork review. He has a passion for presenting the best trucks he can find in the area. "When tourists visit my events, I want them leaving saying 'Orlando has a fantastic food truck scene!' So, selection, curation and management of that level of quality is supremely important to me."

What exactly is it like to attend one of his events? Imagine a parking lot full of food trucks filled with delicious gourmet, ethnic, BBQ and desserts.  (Bring your chairs so you have a place to sit!) Now, imagine the entire parking lot picking up and moving to a different city night after night: that is The Food Truck Bazaar! This event travels just like a food truck does!

Visitor Tips
  • Think tailgating: bring your own chairs + tables + tents
  • Expect long lines.
  • Some trucks will run out of food.
  • Expect loud generators on most trucks.
  • Most trucks take credit cards.

History

In 2009, TheDailyCity.com's Mark Baratelli created Taco Truck Taste Test, a monthly food truck meet-up and TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show, a monthly art show in a moving van. In 2010, he wrote about Hell's Kitchen Food Truck Bazaar and suggested someone bring the idea to Orlando. No one did. In January 2011, the owner of Red Eye BBQ food truck suggested we do an event like the ones in Miami: lots of people, lots of trucks. Mark did it March 29, 2011. Then later that year, he had the idea to take the event on the road.

Producer: Mark Baratelli

The Orlando Business Journal named Mark Baratelli (About | Facebook) a 2012 40 Under 40 award recipient and the Orlando Weekly said "If everyone in Orlando who claims to care about the arts had 1 percent of (Mark) Baratelli’s energy and commitment, this city would be a world culture capital." That same newspaper named him 2012 + 2011 Best Local Advocate and 2010 Best Arts Advocate. He created and Produced Orlando Improv Festival, Audience Choice Awards and Mobile Art Show. His event The Food Truck Bazaar won 2012 Best Local Food Event from Edible Orlando Magazine (2nd), 2012 Best Monthly Event from YELP Orlando, earned him a 2012 BizBash Best Event Producer nomination and earned him the title of "The Pied Piper of Food Trucks" from the Orlando Business Journal.

How do I get my truck in?

SO excited that there will be a location in Oviedo for the summer food bazaar because it is a little closer to me than the rest.

We drove all the way from Gotha to attend the food bazaar. It would be great to have one on the SW side of town! We had so much fun.

Went to Oviedo last night. It was great! Some long lines, but not bad. Food was great. Looking forward to next month, will invite more friends to join the fun.

Went for the first time. It was yummy. I walked around to every truck trying to decide which one I wanted. I wanted something from every truck so we divided up and met back at our chairs and shared plates. Won't be our last time.

I'm confused. At the top of the page it says that on August 14 the Food Truck Bazaar will be at Fashion Square, but on the side of the page in the gray it says it will be in Oviedo. Anyone know which one is correct?

Attended our first food truck bazaar at Fashion Square Mall on Aug. 21. WOW!! Food was great and weather turned out pleasant. Long lines everywhere but so worth it. Yum Yum truck has the best chocolate cupcakes; Pupusas were delicious! Crepe Company great chicken! CK Jerk Shack Island BBQ had wonderful coconut rice with pork! Had a kobe dog which was cold on the inside but will give it another chance. Lines were long and we didn't get to try as many trucks but can't wait till the next one! Food trucks ROCK!

The listing of 5/1/11 is from Orlando Home & Leisure, not Orlando Magazine. My piece was in our August issue - www.orlandomagazine.com/Orlando-Magazine/August-2011/Hot-Wheels/

Which are the 2012 dates for the Fashion Square location?

Looking forward to this event! Absolutely love the food trucks!

I see that food trucks are in Sanford this Saturday. What time? I don't see any hours anywhere. Thanks!

Mark Baratelli said...

Woops! You are correct. We recently changed the page's layout and that VERY important bit of information got left off. All events are 5-8pm. As it gets into the warmer months, we'll change to 6-9pm.

I loved The Food Truck Bazaar in Sanford and will be a regular. I wrote about it in my blog and will later review the places I ate. Thanks! http://lakemaryfoodcritic.blogspot.com/2012/02/food-truck-bazaar.html

we came out on sunday night because we heard on the radio that the kona dog truck was going to be there. the other trucks were very good, but we really wanted to try the kona dog :( when we called the number on their website, the owner said that he wasn't invited. Why would you talk about it on the radio if you didn't invite them to your event?

What's the word on the next Oviedo event? There's another group holding an event in the daytime at the mall. Do they have some sort of "in" with the powers that be? Who can we contact to help y'all out? We like your trucks better!

Anonymous said...

Yes I totally agree! I loved the food truck bazaar being in Oviedo! If the Oviedo Mall or Lowes isn't available what about the old Albertson's parking lot on Alafaya & Mitchell Hammock. What can we do to help bring it back here?!

Anonymous said...

Still hoping for some resolution to the Oviedo situation. Any word on if/when we get another event out here?

Mark Baratelli said...

Working on it. Not easy. We miss Oviedo.

Anonymous said...

Oviedo misses y'all, too! Anything we can do out here to make things easier? An earlier post mentioned a great potential location at the old Albertsons location.

Styrofoam.... all over the place. Have any of the trucks thought of using paper based containers? Went to the ever moving Orange City event...I am hooked...

So happy to have food trucks here! Visited Portland two years ago and loved their food truck corners in downtown! Wondered why Orlando didn't have them and now we do!

Hi!

Was wondering if you have any plans to come to Poinciana in the near future......88,000 + people living out here!!!!!

I went to the Food Truck Bazaar today 7-8-12 and saw that the people in the trucks didn't have hats on after seeing a hair in my food, plus there were people with one glove on but yet touching food with both hands ---NO-GOOD

Any chance the Trucks will come to Clermont?

I believe you have a typo 5 Gastronomy & Firehouse BBQ will be attending Celebration Food Truck fridays on Sept 14th

Just an FYI

Mark Baratelli said...

Thank you for the information about those two trucks. We will look into it. Thanks!

Hi Mark, Is there anything gluten-and-soy-free to eat? These allergies make it hard to visit a food truck; excited that you are doing so well with the venture. Best to you.

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell me ar dogs allowed?

Bonnie said...

To the person who is looking for something gluten & soy free:

For dessert try: Pop Craft Pops-Central Fla. ALL of their popsicles are gluten-free!

For savory foods: since the trucks rotate their menus during the season, friend the trucks on facebook and ask them if their menu for the evening includes anything gluten & soy free!

Elizabeth Kump said...

Are there ever any vegan/vegetarian trucks?

Mark Baratelli said...

There was one simmer 2011, but no one bought any food from it so it went out of business.

Anonymous said...

Mark have you tried the new Italian food truck called The Mangia Mobile. They are doing great stuff, their fried calamari and penne vodka are to die for.

Attended the one in Orange City on 10/07/2012 and my family and I loved it. We hope you continue to visit this area. The food was delicious and the atmosphere nice. No complaints here.

Olga YouMeFit said...

I vote for having one at Crane's Roost in Altamonte Springs!

Mark Baratelli said...

Olga,

We were told they don't allow monthly events because they have to many events to commit to one day each month. Sorry!

April 21, 2013, we purchased our food to go because of the rain threat. The food was great. Looking forward to the next one in DeLand.

We are looking foward for the next month Food Truck Bazaar.

Are you guys going to be in Mt Dora this Thurs 2/20? It's not on the schedule. I drive from Ocala and don't want to be disappointed if there are no trucks, cause they're AWESOME!!!

Minister: We stopped going to Mount Dora in January 2014. Sorry to disappoint!
