Underoath, Thursday,A Skylit Driveand Animals as Leadersall performed on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the House of Blues. If you don’t know, Underoath and Thursday are hardcore/screamo bands, A Skylit Drive is a post-hardcore band and Animals as Leaders is an all-instrumental progressive-metal band. All the bands are extremely talented and I was absolutely thrilled to be at the show. Throughout the show, there was moshing, head banging and crazy amounts of adrenaline. All in all, it was a great night of music. Saturday’s show was the second to the last stop on the Underoath/ Thursday nationwide tour which ended last Sunday in FortLauderdale.

Below is my interview with the lead singer of A Skylit Drive, Jag after the band’s set.

A Skylit Drive is from Londi, California and is comprised of vocalist Micheal “Jag” Jagmin, guitarists Nick Miller and Joey Wilson, bass player and screamer Brian White, drummer Cory La Quay and keyboard…

This Tuesday, March 1, Go Radio (Facebook MySpaceOfficial Website) is releasing their first full-length album Lucky Street”. Go Radio is an alternative rock band from Tallahassee, Florida. The band is comprised of lead singer Jason Lancaster (former member of Mayday Parade), guitarist Alex Reed, bass player Matt “Burns” Poulos and drummer Steven Kopacz. Lucky Street” is a follow up to the band’s EPDo Overs and Second Chances.” “Lucky Street” is a great album with catchy songs, beautiful lyrics and a combination of well-done upbeat rock songs and slow songs. My favorites from the album are “Lucky Street”, “Any Other Heart”, “Kill The Beast”, “Why I’m Home”, “Forever My Father” and “House Of Hallways”. If you haven’t listened to the album, visit the band’s MySpace and listen to the new album before it even releases.
The band is currently touring with Chiodos and Emarosa. In early March, the band will tour with A Rock…

Coytown Community Garden | We Got Plots!

The neighborhood of Coytown is starting a community garden on 12 acres of land donated by the city. Construction has already begun on this same plot of land for the Orlando Mountain Bike Park. The Coytown community garden is on the hunt now for locals who'd be interested in tending to their own plot within the garden. Contact them here.
They're in the planning stage right now, so this is your chance to get in early and have some input into how this garden will work. Due to the large space they have to work with, twelve acres donated by the city, this could potentially be one of the largest community gardens in Orlando. Seeing as how many of the other community gardens have waiting lists, this seems like a good opportunity for you community gardeners-in-waiting out there.
The proposed site is at the North end of Coy Drive, just off Colonial between Bumby and The Fashion Square Mall. Previously part of the Orlando Navy Base facilities, the 17+ acre site was granted to the City of …

Doug Rhodehamel | BACON! The Experience Looking for Kickstarter Funding From Bacon Lovers Everywhere

Doug Rhodehamel’s self-professed “dream project”, BACON!: The Experience was conceived based on an interesting observation Doug made in a series of social situations during which he noticed that he could ignite energetic, connection-based dialogue where uncomfortably awkward, flagging conversation was previously taking place, simply by mentioning the word “BACON!” In celebration of this wide-spread “bacon love”, Doug has decided to stage a large-scale, interactive, bacon-themed art installation. Pretty much think Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory … only with BACON!

The exhibit is scheduled for Saturday April 23, 2011 in Orlando, FL and will include:
• A bacon “red carpet”;
• A treasure trove of sculptures and larger-than-life art made from both real and conceptually-rendered strips of bacon;
• Bacon characters: including Agí “The Bacon Princess”, Randall “The Bacon-ator”, and Doug, dressed in a one-of-a-kind bacon suit;
• Ambient bacon music;
• Subliminal pro-bacon messaging; and, of…

Doug Rhodehamel Latest Show Desicated All Over Orlando

The opening night party for Doug Rhodehamel's show "Desiccation" Friday February 25, 2011 at Twelve21 Gallery (1221-C N. Orange Ave.) was very well-attended. By the time we got there, half the pieces had sold and the room was packed. The boots pictured at left were sported by Rhodehamel, as the show was a collection of pieces modeled to appear as if they were rare sea specimens collected by an 1800s traveller.

The collection was a departure from Doug's normal medium, cardboard, and his tendency to create spaces filled with hundreds of similar-shaped objects. Each piece in this collection was its own entity, each unique. And most likely by the end of the night, each sold.

A lot was discussed at the February 22 meetup. Bess from Central Florida Top 5 shared what she learned on day one of Social Fresh. Then we discussed how we're all different, alike, who we think our audience is, ways we can help each other, how we can support each others' contests and events, ad sales and how each of us handle being approached by PR firms.

Wicked National Tour Loads Into Orlando, Florida Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre

By Mark Baratelli
Owner

This morning we got invited to view a few minutes of "load-in" for the national tour of Wicked, opening at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre this week and running for the next five.

Load-in is the term used for the time when a national tour brings their set into a theatre and constructs it. As we took photos and filmed video, we had to stay clear of folks carrying in giant metal pieces, step over bundles of thick wires and cords and weave our way around rolling boxes full of who knows what. Very exciting.

Its like an office for those of us who are used to working out of our homes and in coffee shops. Watch the video above for a brief tour and explanation.
