Your Feedback: How could the Audience Choice Awards be better next year?

On the ballot for the Audience Choice Awards was the question "How could the Audience Choice Awards be better next year?" We got some great feedback and want to share it with you now.

First, based on this feedback and our own observations, here are the major changes we plan to make in 2011 (so far):1. Drop down menus for each category. So for example, if the category is "Favorite Show in the Yellow venue," instead of users having to type in the title of the show (and possible having to go to the printed program to remember what was in the venue), we provide a drop down menu listing each show that played in the venue. Then the user simply choses from the menu.

2. In some form, we will allow audience members to vote at the festival, either with a laptop we provide or paper ballots or something.

3. Add "Best Director"

4. More presence/awareness of the awards

5. Possibly decrease the number of awards

6. Shorten our award ceremony

Orlando Fringe Festival | Michael Wanzie And the Unnamed Fringe Food Vendor

This Orlando Fringe Festival story was written by Michael Wanzie and distributed on his extremely popular locals-only email list, the WanzieGram. Subscribe here and while you're at it, subscribe to ours.

We thought it best to share Wanzie's non-fabulous Green Lawn of Fabulousness food vendor (see our food vendor list) tale because we've had our own run-in with the same business. They wanted to charge me $1.50 for a can of Coke when EVERYwhere on The Green at Fringe, canned cokes are a buck. I said no and walked away. He then called out to me that a dollar was ok. Ghetto.

Here's Wanzie's story:

The Wanziegram

Overhead at a Vendor Booth that doesn't have a business name posted (nor any prices posted) operating under a white canopy just two spaces to the left of the Flamingo Lounge:

Wanzie: (looking down at the change just handed to him from the vendor) "I think you may have made a mistake. All I ordered was a…

Posted May 29, 2010

On May 28, 2010, I met up with two of the three Orlando artists collaborating on an outdoor night time "glowing" experience called Lumineux. We met at Stardust Coffee and Film to briefly chat about this project described as "a living, breathing, art installation and performance with magical movements, mushrooms & illuminations." The artists I met with were mushroom-happy Doug Rhodehamel and Voci Dance's Genevieve Bernard. Nigel John, the third collaborator who works as a DJ, was not present.

This event takes place Saturday, May 29th at 9pm and Sunday, May 30th at 9pm on the lawn of Loch Haven Park during the Orlando Fringe Festival. Tickets are a five dollar donation.

The Art | 2010 Audience Choice Awards Audience Awards display table was prominently displayed inside the lobby of the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, the main hub of the Orlando Fringe Festival

Giant posters were printed to cover the front of the table to attract attention to the one thing we wanted passersby to do: vote.

Because the back of the table was viewable from the highly-trafficked festival ticking booth, we hung more giant signage (which also served to cover the area below the table.

Information about Mark Baratelli, Editor of was displayed on the table because he is the Creator/Producer of the awards.
