This day in Bumby history

P1340322This sign gives some insight into and the history of the street name "Bumby." Are these signs new? I saw another one near Lake Ivanhoe.

I've passed this sign hundreds of times, but never read it.
Now I know.

Thanks for posting. I've never noticed the sign, although I know where the store building is.

It's a bit shocking how illiterate this sign is. You'd think that something cast in metal and placed as a permanent marker would be executed with a bit more care.

Someone needs to buy the name "Bumby Hardware" and continue it as the oldest business (with a huge gaping hole of non-existance, but still)

I think the sign has been up for a year or so. The Bumby family was responsible for the sign's creation.

Thanks, I also drive by this sign everyday and have always wondered...

Saw this for the first time a week or so ago. I’ve been interested in making one of these signs for a while now. Soon, I hope.

Now thats interesting. I didn't know private companies made these signs. They all look so official, I assumed they were created by some government entity. I'd love to make a series of random markers and place them around town. If only they were cheap.

Joy Dickinson wrote about it in Florida Flashbacks in June of '08 so it's been up since then.
