Fringe is drawn by Lottery, but not scratch-off. Why not have a spinning machine with balls in it, like a Bingo Ball thing, with some old people (or actors dressed as old people) pulling balls?
You could still have random show pictures on the poster - I'm going to guess the pictures were chosen by random lottery, not aesthetics.
My guess is its a metaphor for the chance inherent in the Fringe as a theatre-going experience? A patron never knows what shes going to "get" when she takes a "gamble" on a show she knows nothing about.
