Ivanhoe Village Art Stroll

Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm is the "First Friday Art Stroll at Ivanhoe Village." "The art galleries and shops of Ivanhoe Village open their doors to local artists to showcase their work." There is supposed to be drinks, food and live music as well. Ivanhoe Village, or IV as we are now calling it, is the small cluster of shops on Orange Ave between New Hampshire and Princeton Aves. We've never been to this event before, so enter into it with fear and judgment.

Lake Eola Orlando Farmers Market

Updated Thursday September 20, 2012: The Orlando Farmers Market has a current Facebook page. Go there for more information.

May 31, 2009: Lake Eola Farmers Market is every Sunday, 10am-4pm, in Lake Eola Park. Free parking is available in the Publix building. However, Carolina the Doodler, a vendor at the market, gave us this warning via comment: "Publix parking lot will get you towed if you're not a publix customer. Metered street Parking throughout downtown is Free on Sundays. So you can either pay for a spot in a parking lot or get free street parking. Just looking out for you guys!"

If you don't stop for lunch, it will take you about ten minutes to see everything. And if you want to sell something, booth space is $20 and requires an application. (See all our photos from the 5-31-09 Lake Eola Farmers Market)

RS21 at Maitland Art Center

We paid five dollars to attend the opening night party for RS-21, "The Research School of the 21st Century" at Maitland Art Center May 29, 2009. We enjoyed the installation art, the fun crowd and the bitchy food servers. There are far more exhibits than what we show on this post, but this is the best stuff. Photo Credit: Mark Baratelli. Doug Rhodehamel at RS-21

If you liked the mushrooms on the Green Lawn of Fabulousness at the Orlando Fringe this year then thank artist, Doug Rhodehamel, who made them. Check out his newest project below, part of RS-21 at Maitland Art Center which opened May 29, 2009:

Best of Orlando- Orlando Weekly

Every year Orlando Weekly does their "Best of Orlando" readers poll and last year we actually won second place in the "Best Local Blog" category. This year we want to win first in the same category AND Best Local Internet Site. If you would please vote right here and choose us for those two categories, we'd be grateful. Voting closes at midnight, June 18. Also, local comic book retailer "A Comic Shop" created a great list of their top picks. I found it very helpful when I voted today, reminding me of all the local names/stuff I forgot. And as an added bonus (and nice surprise) we made their list as their choice for "Best Local Blog"! Thank you A Comic Shop!

Photos: The Plaza Cinema Cafe

May 29, 2009: The Plaza Cinema Cafe had its first full day of operation today and we were second in line thanks to a tip from local performance artist Brian Feldman, who was the very first person to buy a ticket to a movie at this new downtown theatre. Here he is above being interviewed by Channel 9 WFTV about the occasion.

Felman attempts to buy the very first ticket for the film "The Odd Couple," which is advertised for an 11:30am showing, but is told the film is not being shown. The titles displayed on the signage behind the ticket person are unfamiliar to myself and Feldman, so I shout out the only title I do recognize: Dance Flick. Yes, the first ticket EVER purchased at the Plaza Cinema Cafe was for Dance Flick. Also, the Buy Local Orlando card is unable to be used by Feldman due to the ticket person's unfamiliarity with how it works.

Both of these problems are understandable as its the theatre's very first day of operation, so no hard feelings. We'll see Da…

Tree down downtown

This tree has been at this corner downtown forever. Now today it was uprooted. Anyone know why? Sad.

Snack at Orlando Shakespeare

"Loosen your belt buckles and gobble up the good times! Fun for the whole family, food has never been so funny!"
