Dawn Schreiner strikes again with comic book

Back in October, visual artist Dawn Schreiner started a new project: making comic books based on people she knew, using her own beautiful visual art skillz. I was lucky enough to be selected as her very first subject.

LURE Design is featured artist at January's Mobile Art Show

The Downtown Arts District and the City Arts Factory have welcomed Mobile Art Show (the art show in a UHaul) as an official monthly part of their Third Thursdays art gallery stroll in downtown Orlando. We are grateful for the opportunity given to us: a venue to program right in the heart of downtown each month.

For January, we will feature the print work and merchandise of local design house Lure Design, Inc from their L2 Design Collective collection of posters, cards and printed gifts. We saw their wares at Grandma Party and had to have them as our first featured guest artist. Mobile Art Show

TriumveRENTertainment! | Community theatre actors, college students and children put on three separate productions of RENT in Orlando, Florida

The Orlando theatre community is raising the bar, setting new trends and thinking outside the black box (har!) by producing the same show three times in the same season in the same year.

In 2010, Orlando theatre goers can see AIDS victims, drug addicts and drag queens played by community theatre actors, college students and children in three separate productions at a community theatre, a university and a childrens theatre. They're all doing productions of the show RENT this Spring, giving Orlando audiences the chance to see three different types of people perform one piece of theatre... three times! Innovation accepted!January 8-February 27

Bring to Orlando: Good Riddance Day

And this one is put on in New York City by the city itself, no less:

"The co-organizers of New Year’s Eve in Times Square (Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment) invite the public to say goodbye, once and for all, to those bad memories of 2009 at the Third Annual GOOD RIDDANCE DAY. On Monday, December 28, 2009 from 12pm - 1pm, a dumpster, shredder and sledge hammer will be stationed on the Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th Streets to discard any distasteful, embarrassing and downright depressing memories from 2009.

Mochi frozen yogurt in Plaza Cinema Cafe

Perhaps cupcakes are indeed done and we've moved onto topped frozen yogurt?

Menchies, meet Mochi.

Mochi has a location of its frozen yogurt topped with stuff and paid for by the ounce business inside the newly re-opened Plaza Cinema Cafe building on the first floor at 145 South Orange Avenue Orlando, FL 32801. Call them and tell them congrats on their opening: (407) 425-9797

It sounds just like Menchie's in the Sand Turkey District (7339 W. Sand Lake Rd., Suite #406 Orlando, FL 32819) which every actor I know who works in that area raves over on Facebook. Call Menchie's and ask them if they're as food as Mochi: (407) 601 - 7792

Read TastyChomp's review of Menchies

Mochi only has location in Florida cities: Jacksonville and Jacksonville, while Menchie's has them all over and is opening a slew in California soon.

More about Mochi's: "Our mission is to provide the community with a nutritional dessert alternative. We offer 100% non-fat, cholesterol-free tart fr…

Orlando Hospital billboard is prepared for you when you decide to ride your bike in Orlando

Remember a few weeks ago when Orlando was named #1 worst city in the US for pedestrians? And then remember just days after that, a cyclist downtown got hit and killed by a truck? Then an awareness (I had hoped) began to build for bike and pedestrian safety after a performance artist's project and the gathering of victim's families took place. I guess an awareness is building...

Downtown Mount Dora

Downtown Mount Dora (map) has a charming small town feel and criss crossing streets filled with knick knack shopping catering to the gift shop and collectable crowds. We enjoyed the cupcake shop, coffee shop, pizza restaurant and the general laid back atmosphere. The Mount Dora Art Festival takes place here February 6-7, 2010, welcoming 300,000 visitors.

Is the cupcake a trend?

Cupcakes at Cupcake Delights in Downtown Mount Dora
Are cupcakes passe? I thought they were, but Saturday December 26, 2009, I went to Downtown Mount Dora and a cupcake shop called Cupcake Delights* there was SOLD OUT of their stock. There were six lonely (but cute) cupcakes sitting in the large glass case. And I'm like "Didn't we do this years ago?"

And then I thought back to my time in New York City where I spent the past three months: the chain "Crumbs" (where I had my teensy birthday in 2008) must now have 5 new locations. And cupcake blogs are everywhere (Did you see this gay as heck cupcake we mentioned on twitter?)

I thought they were a trend, but they seem to be sticking around like dogs in strollers. A few friends responded on Facebook to this topic. Please chime in yourself. Thomas: Cupcakes are sooo 15 minutes ago.

Janessa: More like 5 years ago...

Robyn: No way...cupcakes are huge. they are taking over at weddings (i.e. 'cupcake wedding tier c…

Downtown Mount Dora Christmas Lights

The Christmas lights display in Downtown Mount Dora only spans a block or two, but is lovely. The vertical way they've hung the lights in the trees remind us of the Champs-Élysées in Paris. More on Mount Dora: Chamber of Commerce | Lake County
