SoDo: We've got tenants: and they suck!

Wanna know what's going into the new SuperTarget shopping center on Orange Avenue in what is now being called the "SoDo" area of downtown Orlando? Me neither.
"Kimco Realty Corp. announced a new slate of tenants for its $100 million SoDo mixed-use development south of downtown Orlando.

SoDo, which has its grand opening celebration slated for Oct. 10-12, said its previously announced tenants will be joined by Flipper’s Pizza, The Fish Spa, Olv CafĂ©, Massage Envy, Twist Asian Fusion and Mattress Giant.

The project’s 700,000-square-foot retail center is anchored by SuperTarget, T.J. Maxx and 24 Hour Fitness. It also includes Nature’s Table Cafe, Verizon Wireless, Rockn’ Joe Coffeehouse & Bistro, Banco Popular and Taco Bell, as previously reported by Orlando Business Journal."
This sounds like the most uninteresting place EVER! Congrats, Kimco Realty. I'd call that a group of really uninteresting businesses all conveniently grouped together in one looks-like-Baldwin-Park locale.

What, no dry cleaner? I'm excited to have a Super Target so close to home, I could really care less that the rest of the tenants are the usual cookie-cutter mix that show up in every new Florida plaza.

Super Target will be nice to have in the hood, no doubt, but I do care that yet another new-urbanish-tic plaza offers nothing but mediocrity. When developments like this go up, they have the potential to change a 'hood, engage a community. This? This'll get you cheap toilet paper and a coffee to go. Oh, and a massage.

Where is the Barnes and Noble? I am not excited about most of the stores in there. I'll be there this weekend to check it out but we will see how often I go back. What is there to entice me? Barnes and Noble? Petco?

Exactly. What's the store that will keep you there? The coffee shop is the closest thing. And if it wants to compete, it better have good (and free) wi-fi and a better atmosphere than Drunken Monkey, which will be hard. (I am a fan of Drunken Monkey)

I live in the SODO hood. What a let down on tenants. I expected to see some tenants on the eclectic and interesting side, not just your usual mall stuff. Come on, if I want typical mall shops, I can get to Mall at Millenia in less than 7 min. Hopefully Kimco will manage to bring some additional tenants on board that offer a more unique experience...if they want me to keep coming to my own hood to shop. -Christina

If you had the chance to get out for the Grand Opening this weekend, you would have found a very prosperous lineup at SoDo. They have plans for a coffeehouse, trendy restaurants with atmosphere, and boutiques. Oh, and yes, there will be a dry cleaner!

They did in fact say that more tenants were coming soon, but they weren't able to disclose the names of who they are - we'll have to wait for their planned future reveal. They also said that the small shops would be opening their doors from now through the end of the year.

Now if pet stores are more your "scene", you'll need to look elsewhere. For me, SoDo looks to be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Good. I'm glad. Everything you say SHOULD be happening. It's too bad none of what you're saying came cross in the Orlando Business Journal article I cited.
